Who was Diotima?

She was a philosopher in Plato’s Symposium who taught Socrates that love is a desire for the eternal possession of good, guiding the soul to pure wisdom and truth.

We share her values on wisdom and truth and are powering teaching practice through formative assessment and feedback with AI to drive attainment.

Our Diotima Story

The Diotima story begins with Siobhan, our Learning Lead, retraining as a post primary school teacher, spending her evenings and weekends grading assessments and giving feedback to her students. Siobhan understood feedback to be a vital part of her students learning but it was also overwhelming. She could see that there was possibility in leveraging AI to help solve the problem that all educators experience, and that doing it in a way that complied with all regulations would make it safe and ethical and acceptable to teachers and educational organisations.

Trinity College Dublin and Learnovate

The result is Diotima, an AI enabled platform designed for educators to quickly create assessments with built-in support for learner choice that provides targeted feedback, improving learning outcomes of students.

Combining research and Trinity College Dublin expertise from the School of Education, the School of Computer Science and Learnovate, our mission is to help educators to improve learning outcomes by complementing teacher practice, supercharging differentiated assessment creation and feedback, while giving autonomy to students when completing their assignments, guiding them as they review their answers before submission. The learning loop is complete when they receive individualised feedback from their teachers and reflect on their learning.
